Adayalangal-An Imprint to the future

Chandrasekhar
One of the best movies that I have watched this year. This is the statement that I could make sincerely over the movie Adayalangal by M.G Sasi. I must admit that I have seen the movie with a preset mind and with a curiosity to know what it had to catch the minds of the State awards’ Jurors to shower it with awards last time, though there were tough competition with Adoor and Shyamaprasad. But I must say that the Jurors really deserve an appreciation. Not that the other movies were not upto the mark. Taking into consideration that this is Sasi’s debutant directorial venture in Feature films and the conviction and concentration with which he had approached the subject, one must admit that it is a commendable effort. So also the way the movie is treated too is worth mentioning. While creating a period, the director makes its impact with all the nuances recreated but that too within the shoestring budget as well as the limited canvass. In fact these limitations are unnoticed by the directorial presence. Sasi had succeeded in creating the mood of the war hit Kerala as well as some special moments when the hero Gopi meets his lover meenakshi. Once again Kudos to Sasi and with filmmakers like Sasi and Priyanandanan, we can be proud that Malayalam Cinema is yet to go ahead.
